Intervertrebral Disc Wear and Tear |
|
The intervertrebral disc wear and tear occurs in an advanced state mostly with an inflammatory reaction of the adjacent vertebral body, so that a so-called osteochondrosis occurs.
The wear and tear of a movement segment (intervertebral disc with associated spinal joints) is to be considered as natural, however for most people it develops into a premature ageing with corresponding pain symptoms.
The patients complain mostly of pressure-related back pain. A height reduction of an intervertebral disc space and the discharge of disc tissue in the vertebral canal can lead to radiating pain in the legs (spinal canal stenosis). An intervertebral wear and tear is often also the prerequisite of a slipped disc. |
